Preventive Dentistry

Cleaning, Exam, Oral Cancer Screening

At Bates Family Dentistry, we strongly believe in the importance of whole body preventive health. Good nutrition, maintaining an active lifestyle through regular physical activity, and consistent home care paired with routine cleanings at the dental office all play a role in preventive health. Patients with diseased gums release significantly higher levels of bacterial components such as endotoxins in the bloodstream. As a result, these bacterial components in the blood could travel to other organs of the body causing harm.

Periodontitis (the advanced form of gum disease that can cause tooth loss) has been linked to increased risk of stroke, myocardial infarction, and atherosclerosis. Individuals with impaired fasting glucose and diabetes mellitus have higher degrees of periodontal inflammation, and often have difficulties with balancing their blood glucose levels due to this constant systemic inflammatory state caused by this periodontal inflammation.

At Bates Family Dentistry, we tailor the frequency of regular dental visits to accommodate current oral health status and health history. We also provide thorough oral cancer screenings with every exam.

We encourage preventing disease and making preventive health maintenance top priority to achieve optimal wellness.

Night Guards & Athletic Mouth Guards

Night guards help to alleviate jaw and face pain associated with clenching and grinding while also helping to prevent occlusal wear and cracked teeth. Custom fit mouth guards greatly reduce the risk of sports related injuries by providing a layer of cushioning for the teeth, lips, gums, and surrounding jaw.

Sealants

Sealants are a preventive restoration that can be placed in molars to help prevent cavities. The purpose of sealants is to protect normal pits and grooves on the chewing surface of back teeth before decay ever begins.

Restorative Dentistry

At Bates Family Dentistry we provide a vast array of services that restore decayed, broken, and damaged teeth. These dental restorations include fillings, crowns, bridges, root canals, and dentures.

Fillings

The color and translucency of our filling material closely matches natural teeth so that your smile stays bright and beautiful. These restorations are well tolerated by patients and are gentle to nearby teeth. Silver fillings can easily be replaced with these composite fillings.

Porcelain Crowns and Bridges

Crowns become necessary when there is inadequate tooth structure to hold a filling. They closely match natural teeth and are very resistant to wear and stain. A dental bridge is a series of connected crowns used to fill the space of a missing tooth and/or teeth.

Root Canals

Root canal procedures are designed to save teeth damaged by injury and/or severe tooth decay. In some cases, a specialist may be utilized to perform the procedure.

Dentures

Partial dentures replace only part of the dentition while complete dentures replace all the teeth. Both are designed to improve aesthetics and restore chewing function.

Cosmetic Dentistry

With cosmetic dentistry you no longer have to settle for stained, chipped or crowded teeth. We offer many options to restore confidence in your smile.

Zoom In-Office Whitening

Zoom in-office treatment delivers dramatic results in just 45 minutes. This procedure is quite simply the fastest, easiest, and most effective whitening solution offered by Philips Zoom.

This procedure starts with placing a special covering over the gums and then a special hydrogen peroxide whitening gel is applied to the teeth. Once on your teeth, hydrogen peroxide breaks down into stain-fighting radicals that break the molecular bonds making up stains, on and in your teeth. The intense light of the Philips Zoom WhiteSpeed Whitening LED Accelerator shining on the whitening gel helps these stain-fighting radicals whiten faster. The Accelerator light increases whitening results by an amazing 40%!

Bleaching

We offer custom fit trays and in office Zoom whitening. Custom fit trays are take home treatments that have several different strength options. The strength chosen for each patient is based on level of sensitivity and amount of time needed for each patient.

Enameloplasty

This procedure involves modifying teeth to improve their appearance. It requires sculpting and re-contouring or removing enamel. It is a quick, comfortable, and painless procedure with immediate results.

Veneers

Veneers are a great option to dramatically improve the smile. They are thin custom-made facings designed to cover and enhance the front side of teeth. Veneers are also indicated to treat small spaces and gaps between existing teeth.

Crowns

Crowns completely cover all surfaces of the teeth. They are done when more tooth reduction is required or when adequate tooth structure is not available. Crowns can dramatically improve the appearance and transform your smile.

Orthodontics

We provide simple orthodontic treatment using a series of clear trays. These also provide a simple solution for patients that have experienced orthodontic relapse and want an easy solution to correct the problem. All major cases requiring  braces and brackets are referred to a specialist.
